## Definitions

- **List price**: What a registrar publishes for an ending, before any coupon. We read each registrar's public price list every morning.
- **Year 1**: What a new registration costs for its first year. A promotion can make it far lower than the renewal.
- **Renewal**: The yearly fee that keeps the name yours after the first year.
- **Transfer-in**: What a registrar charges to bring a name you own over from another registrar.
- **Renewal trap**: An ending whose cheapest first year renews at least twice the first year and at least $10 more.
- **Confirmed change**: A price that moved and read the same on the next morning. A price that moves once and comes back is never counted.
- **Today's endings**: 40 endings drawn for the UTC day, the same for every visitor, listed alphabetically. Members compare every ending.

A first year priced low to win the sale, followed by a renewal at least twice the first year and at least $10 more. Over five years, the renewal is most of what a name costs.

## Method

We read the public price lists of nine registrars every morning, in US dollars, and confirm a price change on the next morning's read. The page shows 40 endings a day; this file carries the counts and never a price beside a domain name.
