This week in domains
Buyers and brokers put top-end .com prices on public record this week, while the wholesale layer showed its own heat in escrow volume, Dynadot bidding wars and a new .si aftermarket, alongside reminders of how fragile domain control can be.[12][3][6][19][15]
End users disclose top-dollar .com upgrades
Sam Desai, founder and CEO of the venture investment site formerly known as Hiive.com, said on LinkedIn that the company bought Clarity.com to upgrade to a top-tier domain. It is the rare case where the buyer, not a seller or broker, put the number on record, which gives the deal unusual weight as a comparable. Earlier in the week Elliot Silver reported that TradingCards.com traded through GoDaddy at a seven-figure price, tying the purchase to strong recent growth in a collectibles market that runs from sports cards to Pokemon. Atom's Director of Sales and Partnerships, Zack Gabor, disclosed the Nor.com sale on LinkedIn; the buyer sits behind Whois privacy and the name resolves to a generic page, so the end use is not yet visible. Reign.com followed a similar arc: it moved from GoDaddy to Cloudflare under privacy in June while showing a DreamHost parked lander, and was only this week confirmed as a rebrand acquisition. For holders of short and one-word .com names, the week adds three reported deals from three channels (a buyer post, a broker post and GoDaddy's brokerage), plus a reminder that registrar moves under privacy can precede a public rebrand by months.[12][8][13][4]

Liquid-market data: escrow volume, a decade of reports and repriced LLLL .coms
Giuseppe Graziano of GGRG published the 41st Liquid Domains Overview with Escrow.com, Estibot parent Intelium and ShortNames.com. It covers 614,928 .com names classed as liquid, and its headline escrow figure shows Escrow.com sales nearly doubling in Q3 2026. An industry publication separately reported that, as the GGRG reports enter their second decade, Graziano used the accumulated data to test whether domains outperformed other asset classes over the past 10 years. Shane Cultra offered a ground-level view from his own book: after cutting asks on high-quality four-letter .coms from $25K to $12K and $14K, he sold FRMI.com at the top of that range and has logged five sales this year, over $50K combined, versus essentially none last year. He also notes better five-letter names now cost about $2K to acquire, up from $800 a few years ago, a cost shift that narrows the gap between buying five-letter inventory and selling repriced four-letter names.[3][22][7]
.si moves from curiosity to aftermarket category
Domain Name Wire framed its end-user sales column this week around the Slovenian ccTLD, and the supply side is moving too: Catched is adding .si backorders, a note repeated across Shane's lists on October 14, 16 and 17. Asks and auction levels are now visible on Sedo and in GoDaddy-adjacent auction picks. The friction is visible as well. Elliot Silver tried to buy a .si through Spaceship's marketplace and submitted payment, only for Spaceship to relay a message from the seller about the domain days later; the Spaceship founder has since warned sellers to keep listings current. For anyone pricing .si, stale listings mean marketplace asks are not always executable prices, while backorder access through Catched opens a drop-catch route that did not exist on that platform before.[19][1][7][26][25][2]

GoDaddy expired auctions and a Finance comp set
Trav's Sunday roundup tracked 41 names that cleared $1k in GoDaddy expired auctions, a list he flagged as light because of technical issues, so the count understates the week. Two numeric .coms and a two-digit .vip took the top three spots. His Thursday list built a comp set of .com names ending in Finance sold in expired auctions since 2023, prompted by OxygenFinance.com; results run from five figures down to the low thousands depending on the prefix. The same list showed Commissary.com at $5,500 on 63 bids at Namejet, with DealPro.com at $650 and Orca.net at $550.[25][20]

Policy and disputes: .au rules, a lost .name and UDRP sequencing
Registrars are pushing back on proposed changes to Australia's domain name rules, per Domain Name Wire, putting the channel that sells .au at odds with the proposed policy direction. A separate DNW report shows the downstream cost of losing a personal domain: a woman faces changing 211 accounts after her .name domain was terminated, a concrete measure of how much identity hangs on addresses tied to one name. A citizen journalist has also gone to court to stop a recurring cycle of domain whac-a-mole. In the ICA UDRP Digest, Ankur Raheja examined a complainant that offered $1,000 through a broker for a domain registered in 2002, and whose own letter stated a UDRP complaint would follow if the offer was declined. For holders of older names, that kind of correspondence documents how a complainant approached the domain as a purchase before it chose the UDRP route.[18][15][28][21]
